Q:I use these for everything. I recently saw a post that deck screws are not structural w/video showing deck screw in vice losing to a hammer. Is that true for this screw? Can these handle some load or only for vertically attaching deck to hoist?

Answer This Question

A:  Light shear loads only. Maybe 100 lbs or so for long term. These seem to be a little tougher than drywall screws, but not by much.

by|Mar 14, 2024

A:  Yes, that is true for this screw. This screw is not structural and is not meant to be used to secure a specific load.

    Zero sheer strength, complete junk.
32x8 ft porch, one winter season of service, greater than three out of four screws were sheared. Assembled the porch nicely, however after a 4-month winter I had to completely disassemble the porch and replace with torx head deck screws as d near every single screw was broken, leaving the porch unstable and unsafe for use. They assemble nicely but cannot withstand high torque or wet weather expansion. All of my joists were loose and hanging by the decking. I would not recommend.

Great length for secure tight fit on stairs and decks
Used to secure 2 x 6 pressure treated lumber for new outdoor steps and platform. Went in smooth and tight. Stairs and platform feel tight and safe. Selected the PH2 head for convenience. Great screws.

This is something everyone should do . Remove 2 to 3 screws from each hand on your front door and replace with long screws. The screw on the right in the picture is the one that was removed and the one on the left is the one that we installed. Really slows down somebody trying to kick in your door adds security Fortifying your home

Not a good product. Used these screws to put my stairs together going out of the back of my house 4 months ago. one of the steps got a crack so I needed to replace the step. I just finished the repair and 2 of the 9 screws that i had to remove had rusted and broken off inside the wood. This is just after 4 months. I am now worried on the condition of the rest of the screws on my stairs.

Used these to build our catio. They seem pretty sturdy, and didn't strip out super easy like some screws I've bought at walmart, so that was nice.
