    About This Product

Veneered construction gives these decorative PureBond Birch Plywood Project Panels the strength, flatness and rigidity to satisfy the most discerning craftsman. Each 7-ply sheet is assembled with a soy-based PureBond technology to fortify its structural integrity, with the added benefit of being formaldehyde-free so it wills not off-gas toxic fumes over time as UF-constructed plywood is known to do. The decorative veneers are precision-cut from domestically grown, sustainably harvested birch trees, producing visually alluring wood grains on the face and back of the panel that exhibit the warmth, beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood. Featuring real timber throughout, the core veneer consists of natural yellow poplar substrate laid in alternating cross bands for utmost stability and ruggedness. It's a cost-competitive alternative to urea formaldehyde-laden plywood and will not contribute to air-quality degradation like composite panels. For extraordinary results on your next carpentry or woodworking project, add this 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. panel to your arsenal for construction of cabinets, entertainment centers, wall panels, coffee tables, bookcases, toy chests, benches, desks, shelves and more. The decorative veneers have a smooth finish that allows painting or staining to make it uniquely yours.

The Birch layer on the plywood is thin and really not intended for wear that a floor would receive. It would need to have a thicker Birch veneer to hold up to foot traffic.

What is the significance of the numeric in the grade (C3). The plywood grades I'm familiar with are typically two alpha characters (one for each side). i.e. AB, AC, BB, BC, etc.

Hi, These grades are based off face and back. A and 1 being the highest grade. A-D will be the grade of the face. 1-4 will be the grade of the back! If you have more questions, you can reach me at alec.neugent@cfpwood.com.

Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the birch plywood product offers a smooth finish and is easy to work with, making it suitable for various projects. However, many reviews highlight concerns about the quality, including thin veneers, voids, and inconsistencies in thickness. While some customers appreciate the aesthetic appeal and stability of certain sheets, others experienced issues with delamination and warping, leading to dissatisfaction with the overall value for the price. Overall, the product has received mixed feedback, with a notable emphasis on the need for better quality control.

                    Absolutely Garbage, do not buy!
I highly suggest you do not buy this plywood; it is absolutely junk. On 2/15/25 we purchased 16 sheets at $85.58 each for a total of $1,385.28. This is not cheap wood, and I wouldn't think at this price point quality wouldn't be an issue, but I was very wrong. Very wrong. We had major issues with this wood delaminating and having major voids when cut. We had to spend a ton of time regluing this delamination issue and filling the edge voids, almost doubled the hours invested into this project. I wish that I could give it Negative stars, that is what this product deserves. Shop elsewhere if looking for a high-grade material, this sure was not cabinet grade by no means. Might as well purchased OSB. Very disappointed!!!!

Voids on ripped edges, Chipping on veneer surface
The performance of this Birch Plywood did not meet my expectation. There are two major issues; voids in the edges after ripping cuts, and chipping when drilling, rip cutting or cross cutting. The wood voids that appeared after rip cuts made edge banding difficult. Many of the edges required wood filler and sanding before edge banding could be applied. This added hours to the Murphy Bed project I'm working. Chipping along the edges after table saw rip cuts and miter saw cross cuts was severe. I used a zero clearance throat plate on both saws, kept the blade down on the miter saw until it stopped running, and even tried a backer board with no success. Drilling also chips the veneer finish. Again, I used techniques to eliminate chipping but still had tear out on the back side. See photos. On a positive note, the grain and finish of the veneer is excellent. The sheets were also very square which simplified ripping on my table saw. The scraps from this project will also make excellent jigs and garage shelves so I appreciate the versatility of this product. For rough projects, this product is excellent. If you're building furniture, you may want to find a higher grade. For the price, the value of this product is average.

                        TERRIBLE QUALITY
I have noticed poor quality - such as veneers not bonded - over the past several years with various plywood at Home Depot, but this is the WORST EVER. In this sheet, Plys not fully bonded, veneer not fully bonded, dark discolorations just beneath the outer veneer that show thru the veneer. It was clear that the flaw ran all the way across the sheet. I spent hours re-gluing this stuff back together. I would have returned, but had spent a lot of time cutting into the shelves. (And you never know if the saw at DC HD is even working!)

                          This stuff is hot garbage
I do occasional cabinet work, and I can't recommend this stuff due to the voids and paper thin veneer. The voids were so numerous that I had some great examples on the edges of my cuts, which ruined large pieces. There is a large circular void in the middle of another panel that I didn't even notice, but once I polyed it, the paper thin veneer wrinkled up and shrank, so I have a nice silver-dollar size circular wrinkle where there is no wood under the veneer. Used to be Ok
This product is so varied in quality it’s terrible. If you’re doing professional stuff DO NOT USE. One piece is passable, next two have 1” size holes that are at least 2 ply deep. Of course I checked first piece I pulled and it was ok. Next two didn’t check. Had to spend extra hour on how to make these boxes without the defects showing. $90 a sheet!!!! In addition you can even see voids in ply on machine cuts. I’ll also mention other comments saying raised sections that can’t be sanded.

                              Over priced and not good
The veneer has a weird white raised stuff on it, it is a pain to sand out, especially being careful not to sand through the veneer. This is WAY over priced for the quality. Forget the home centers, try and find a plywood supplier, the hours of operation are not convenient, you may have to drive a distance, and the price might not be any better, but the quality is perfect.

                                Vastly overpriced for the quality
Trash wood directly under the veneer and plenty of it. Unacceptable given the price. You have to fill it before you can appropriately edge band any of it. Time is money, spend it on wood that isn't full of garbage!

                                  Poor quality for the price
Ripping this revealed a large void under the “good” side 1-1/4” deep! I understand the price has gone up, but when the quality doesn’t go along with it that’s bad. This cost over $80. These pictures show how thin the actual birch veneer really is. I should return it but already in the middle of the project. This will be the top of a work bench so can’t just putty it up. Guess I’ll use gorilla glue so it foams up hard and fills the space. Not looking forward to finding the rest of the voids.

                                    Watch out for embedded metal
While the quality seems acceptable overall, I ran into a piece of steel embedded in the second sheet I was breaking down. This resulted in a small shower of sparks and a hot piece of shrapnel hitting me in the arm. Fortunately I always wear PPE so no real injuries. I am going to continue breaking down the remaining 4 sheets after having my table saw blade sharpened 🤞
